Recently in my position with the public service, I had the opportunity to design email newsletters. I designed email newsletters for three teams. My process was to use the President's email newsletter and the department's visual style guide as a base and inspiration for the designs. I wanted to make sure that the team's email newsletter was in line stylistically with the President's email newsletter and that the team's email newsletter would be a logical progression in terms of design and fit stylistically if it were side by side with the President's newsletter. I took style cues (fonts, colours, layout etc.) from the President's newsletter to determine the header, text and footer sections. The email newsletter layouts were created in Outlook with illustrations created in Adobe Illustrator and photos for the newsletter edited in Adobe Photoshop.
